I’m always looking for new places to shop and new friends to make. I met Chiara on Instagram after she joined in with #clothesthatdontboreme. I thought she was adorable and then I found that she has an online boutique, Chips Fashion. Well, of course I had to hop over and see what that was all about. I immediately fell in love with Chiara, her husband Ipi, and what they sell. After you read about them, I know you will too!
But first, a little about this gorgeous jumpsuit I was so kindly gifted from Chips Fashion. This is the perfect jumpsuit as it’s so easy to style to wear from day to night! During the day, I’ll wear it with sneakers or sandals, and for night with a pair of heels. If it’s cool out I’ll add a jean or leather jacket. I’ll also change my jewelry-probably just switching out my earrings as there is beautiful embellishment around the neck. Add a beach bag for day, a clutch for night and you’re good to go. I can’t wait to travel as this will be the perfect jumpsuit to wear on a beach or walking around a city.
When did you open your boutique?
We have opened 2 years ago, the 8th of April 2019. We were searching for a shop shortly before the pandemic started, luckily the universe saved us from doing it.
We are still thinking about opening a physical shop. Like everything in life nothing is 100% sure, but our biggest dream is to open a shop in Ibiza. Probably is naif of us to think, but we are “go with the flow” kind of people. We always think that the universe will guide us in the right direction.
What made you decide to start a clothing boutique?
I’m from Milan, and for 30 years I grew up on bread and Fashion. During Fashion Week the city transforms in a huge catwalk and I always loved that time of the year. For a number of years I worked in different boutiques in Milan and since I moved to Germany, for good, I was missing the glamour and uniqueness of my city.
I always wanted a colorful place where I could express myself and my style and I remember we had the Inspiration in Ibiza. Ibiza is really a unique place. The free spirit you breath around the Island and the mix of people from all over the world, makes Ibiza our happy place. The people that walk around the Island are pretty colorful, extravagant and free to express themselves. Ibiza is also the place where my husband and I first met and, for all this reasons, we wanted something that will express all the best feelings we find when we travel there. In that period my husband was tired of his job, he used to work for a big firm in the online shop section, and thought: “Ok let’s make this together, I will be the brain, you the heart of it”. (DOABH – I have to comment here-how adorable is this?!)
Do you have a background in fashion?
I studied History of Art and use to paint, and I love fashion pieces that are also art pieces. (DOABH – I so agree!)
What do you look for when ordering clothes and accessories for your shop? Do you stay with the same designers or try different ones?
When I search for a new brand I search for that WOOOOW effect. I love brands that design prints themselves and put a lot of love in every detail of every collection.
I also search brands that have an eye for sustainability. It is so important to try to reduce our footprint. I’m so happy that the Fashion Industry has started to change and be more aware of it. I have always kept in mind the famous Quote of Vivienne Westwood : “Buy less. Choose well. Make it last. Quality not Quantity.” (DOABH – yes!)
We have some brands that are always with us, Hayley Menzies, Stine Goya, and Hippy Chick. They are also the best sellers, but we are always searching for new brands to integrate in our shop.
What is a day like for you?
Our day starts pretty early, we stand up, drink coffee, exercise, prepare all the orders to send and check emails. After eating starts the online part. Write a blog article and take care of the online shop and social media.
What is your favorite part of owning a fashion shop?
Honestly my favorite part is the showroom and Fair Season. I love to touch clothes and decide which will be part of the next season. Normally the first pieces I see are the once that come with us. I’m pretty intuitive and I try to always follow my gut feelings.
What is the hardest part?
The hardest part is try to stay within the budget when it comes to ordering the new collections. If it were up to me I would love to buy EVERYTHING every time. Luckily I have Christian (also known as Ipi), my husband, who controls my enthusiasm when it comes to ordering (eheheheh). (DOABH – what a team!)
I think if I had a shop I’d want to keep everything I sell. Are you like that? If you are, how do you keep from doing so?
I would love to have everything for me ahahah. This is probably the second hardest part of the work but I’m trying to follow the philosophy of Vivienne Westwood myself and buy only one or two pieces per season of the brands we have and nothing more. It’s really hard but so far It worked. (DOABH – incredible self control!)
I love how Chip & Ipi describe their business:
Chips Fashion represents who we are and what we think is important in fashion: the freedom to wear a piece of clothing that really expresses itself, because for us that is exactly what beauty means.
Shop Chips Fashion online for great styles that can take you from day to night and be sure to follow them on Instagram as well!
