Kozan: Clothes That Are Chic, Comfortable, & Incredibly Gorgeous

I am in love!! The clothes I am going to share with you are so fantastic words don’t explain how excited I was when I unpacked the box from Kozan and now I just want to go somewhere, anywhere, so I can wear them!! 

I was first introduced to Kozan when I shopped at Evie Lou and from that moment on I was hooked. You all know I love things that are unique, well, I also love to wear clothes that are architectural. By this I mean, clothes that have interesting shapes, exaggerated proportions, or fun angles. This is what you will see in clothing by Kozan, along with pockets, interesting fabrics, and clothes that just make a woman feel special!

How did you get started in this business? 

My husband, Chad and I started Isle by Melis Kozan 15 years ago. We wanted to take a passion and make a business. Chad has a family history in the Istanbul fashion business, and envisioned transforming my fashions into a label here in the U.S. It was great to build on something that was already within both of us. We currently have three collections Isle, BAR, and Kozan.

What are your favorite materials to work with? 

Prints, pattern, and novelty fabrics. Designing print work to make us stand out and be more unique.  I love a bold print!

Your clothes are so unique, what inspires your creativity when designing a new season? 

I start with the creative process to see what I love and what I am drawn to, and look into past seasons. We look at what worked the top sellers customers reacted to and make it a balance. Travel, art, trend reports have always been part of my inspiration process.  

Do you have a piece that you’ve designed that has special meaning to you? 

Very hard to choose from, there are pieces every season that I adore.

What is your favorite part of owning, designing, and running a clothing company?

 Beyond rewarding seeing your collection grow. Seeing our retailers having success with our collections makes the whole process worth it. Seeing my designs out in the market, and seeing the styles look fabulous on the consumer.

What does a typical day look like for you? 

I’m a mom of twin boys and having a routine for the family is essential. We have different schedules and with our work team we make it all happen.
