My birthday is in October and I turned 62! When I say the number it sounds so old, but I definitely don’t feel old!! My family made my celebration really special. The Sunday before my birthday my oldest came in for a few days! Monday was a holiday so we had a picnic in Central Park. It was a beautiful day and so much fun to hang out with everyone. We even played dominoes, which is always fun! That night we went to Don Angie for dinner. This was my choice and let me tell you it was a hard reservation to get! Luckily my oldest was able to get one, although the other tried as well! Dinner was incredible! They have a salad, the Chrysanthemum Salad, that is one of the most delicious salads I’ve ever eaten. That’s why I wanted to go back!! Their other food is delicious as well, but this is beyond! On the actual day of my birthday my husband and I started off by going to Stretch’d. We had each gotten each other a session for Mother’s and Father’s Day and finally scheduled a session. It was fabulous! I can’t wait to go back for another session. This time I think I’ll combine the stretching with a massage-doesn’t that sound like a dream?! Next we decided to go to Chelsea and we walked around Chelsea Market, grabbing a bite to eat. Then we continued to Meatpacking and sat by the rooftop pool at The Gansevoort for a bit. Next, we met up with my daughter and walked on the Hudson River Greenway, on the westside. We went to dinner that night at Sea Wolf in Brooklyn. My husband wanted a seafood restaurant for me that had a beautiful view. He scored on both counts! The people working at Sea Wolf were so nice and they helped to make my birthday so special! I had a great birthday and appreciate how my family made it so special for me!
Yom Kippur is the holiest holiday in the Jewish religion. It’s the day we pray to G-d for forgiveness of our personal sins and seal our fate for the coming year. We fast for 25 hours, from sundown until one hour after sundown the next day. It’s traditional to break fast with family and friends and this year I was lucky enough to do so with three of my children and a bunch of their friends. We hosted at our apartment and it was so much fun to see everyone eating and laughing. Many of their friends are not Jewish, but it didn’t matter-it was being together with those who are important to us and celebrating together. This, to me, is always the true meaning of any holiday.
The Little Market Candles: I’m always looking for safe, great smelling candles and a while back my daughter introduced me to candles from The Little Market. These candles are vegan and phthalate-free, and smell delicious. Aside from incredible candles, The Little Market sells home decor, bath items, gifts, and so much more. I love The Little Market because they are a nonprofit fair trade shop. What they sell is ethically sourced and their products are artisan-made.
Acne Studios Sweater: For my birthday this year my kids bought me a sweater I had seen and commented on and I love it! This mohair and wool sweater from Acne Studios is gorgeous. You know I love to wear sweaters over summer dresses and this one will be worn all. winter. long.
Komil: Komil tops are the perfect way to transition summer clothes into the fall. I layered them over summer dresses, jumpsuits, or with jeans and a skirt. They’re perfect for casual wear and can be dressed up for an evening out. Komil’s garments are so well made and the fit is perfect. I’ll be wearing these on repeat!
Tesslo: I’ve shared the gorgeous custom designed clothes from Tesslo before and love Tessy’s creativity and talent. This month Tessy arranged for me to be photographed in the beautiful velvet coat dress she custom made for me. We met in Central Park and the fabulous Denton Taylor photographed me. It was so much fun to be styled and I felt like a model. But the star of the shoot was/is this beautiful velvet coat dress. I love the color, the collar, the draping, the fit, absolutely everything!!
Anine Bing Sample Sale: I love Anine Bing clothes and when I saw there was a sample sale I had to go! My youngest said she’d go with me and we agreed to meet there at 9 am, the sale started at 10. Well, I learned a New York lesson! When we arrived at 9 the line was over a block and a half long. It seems we should have gotten there about 7 am to be at the front of the line! The doors opened at 10 so we waited. After another 45 minutes I asked my daughter if she wanted to stay and she said we’d already waited for almost two hours, so-we waited. At 11:45, two hours and 45 minutes later, we finally got in! At first it looked like it was really picked over, but as we dug deeper we found a good amount of great clothes. In hindsight, I am glad we stayed and now I know that next time I’ll get there much earlier.
Sneakers: I’ve been looking for new sneakers to wear as I roam the city. I’m not a runner so these are more for every day and I want them to look cute! I love my Adidas Stan Smiths. I wear them so much I’ve worn through the soles-first time I’ve ever done that with sneakers! I also love my black Converse high tops. So I’m coming to you for advice! What sneakers do you recommend that will look good with dresses, jeans, skirts, whatever I wear? Thanks for your help!
