Things That Helped Me Beat The Boredom In June & July 2023

August 1, 2023 •

downtown-Manhattan

It’s never boring in the summer. Once the sun is shining and the weather heats up, well, life is good!

Bronx Zoo

My husband and I have been having so may fun adventures this summer including dinner at Collective Retreat on Governors Island. The food was pretty good and the views spectacular, plus for dessert you can make s’mores over the fire pits (or just eat the chocolate bar as I did!) Another day we visited the Bronx Zoo. I haven’t been there since 1997 with my oldest daughters on a school trip, so this was a fun day. After the zoo we went to Arthur Avenue for a bite to eat and a visit to a bakery-delicious! On the 4th of July we watched fireworks in NYC over the East River and that was beautiful. We took a little trip to Coney Island, Brighton Beach, and ended up having dinner in Sheepshead Bay. We went to Robert Moses Beach a few times and it was heaven! We even walked to Kismet, Fire Island one day, which was also fun.

My mom with all her grandchildren!

But the most special time in July was celebrating my mom’s 90th birthday! The entire family was there and it was wonderful. How fortunate am I to be able to celebrate 90 years with my mom!

As you can see my summer’s been filled with beautiful times and people, no time to be bored at all! Here are some other things that kept me entertained and looking good during my summer adventures!

Clara-Sunwoo-jacket

Clara Sunwoo: Clara Sunwoo is a mother daughter design team based in NYC. Their clothes are wrinkle free and fashion forward! They have developed the coolest alternative to leather and faux leather. It’s called Liquid Leather and it’s a knit fabric that is soft, breathable, stretchy, and absolutely amazing! Clara Sunwoo offers Liquid Leather jackets, skirts, tops, dresses, pants in gorgeous colors and styles. For 10% off your purchase use the code diarybored.

Bodymoons

Bodymoons: So many beautiful summer outfits require strapless bras or are backless and for those of us who can’t go braless, Bodymoons to the rescue! Bodymoons Sticky Bra is reusable, washable, comfortable, and they stay in place! I wasn’t sure if they’d work for me, but after figuring out the placement they worked!

Jodi-Picoult

The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult: My mom told me she was reading a really good book and since I love Holocaust books I decided I’d read it as well. I’ll be honest I don’t love all of Jodi Picoult’s books as I have a hard time getting in to them, but those I do read I love, My Sister’s Keeper being one of her best! The Storyteller is another of her best. It was different than many other Holocaust books I’ve read as I learned more about what went on in the camps than I knew before. Parts were disturbing as these things actually happened, but I think it’s important for us to know. What made this an even better experience for me was that I went to my mom’s book club. Yup, me and 15 80+ year olds! These ladies were so amazing. Their comments, insight, and the way they related the story and lessons to our lives today was just incredible. It was such a nice afternoon with my mom and her friends!

Garbolino: Monique, the owner of Garbolino has a mission “to bring the best quality fashion garments to our customers all over the world.” Monique’s goal is “to share my passion for style and design with others so that they too can feel confident and beautiful in their everyday lives.” Monique does this well! Her clothes are gorgeous and she really knows what will look good on different body types. You can shop Garbolino online, but if you live near Providence, Rhode Island stop in a visit Garbolino, and Monique, in person!  Don’t forget to use the discount code boredhousewife10 for 10% off your purchase!

Buki: Looking for really comfortable clothes? Well, you’ve found it! Buki is a men’s and women’s clothing line designed with state-of-the-art Japanese fiber technology. Their clothes are sustainable, breathable, and machine-washable! Oh, did I mention they’re also really cute and stylish, and easy to dress up or wear casually!

Vivian-Lou

Vivian Lou: I love to wear heels but with all the walking I do, plus getting older, my heels are not always the most comfortable. When I used the Classic Insole by Vivian Lou I was able to wear shoes I hadn’t worn in years! The insole takes the pressure off of the front of your foot with a slight shift. This shift makes such a difference. I feel like I’ve got a whole new wardrobe of shoes thanks to Vivian Lou!

Dolma

Dolma: Dolma is a sustainable clothing and accessory line filled with natural fibers and recycled fabrics. Their products are ethically sourced and so pretty. They have four locations in California, but for those of us who don’t live nearby, luckily we can shop Dolma online!

I hope you’re have a wonderful summer so far filled with adventures, relaxation, fun, whatever it is that keeps you from being bored! xo

    Hi Michele,
I love the brands of clothing you find, such treasures! The CSW looks so good on you too. I have a tough time with jumpsuits as I have a long torso and am tall. You did alot and sounds like such memories! I have never been to the Bronx Zoo. I love those and Aquariums. Happy 90th to your Mom! Love seeing the family pictures. My mom turns 80 next year.
I always enjoy visiting your blog.

      Hi Jess,

How blessed are we to be able to celebrate such milestones with our moms!

I love finding these new (to me!) brands of clothing and sharing them with everyone is so much fun! I love jumpsuits, but would give them up for a few inches in height and torso (I’m short and short waisted-ugh!)

Come to NY and we can go to the Bronx Zoo together! It’s such a treasure!

Thanks for the kind words. I love reading your blog as well!

      xo
