Our second morning in the city we headed to Cookshop for brunch. We both ordered the egg & sausage sandwich and it was delicious. The funniest part was when we walked in to the restaurant my daughter saw the name of one of their other restaurants and guess where we were going that night? Yup, Shuka, one of the restaurants in their group-what are the odds!
After brunch we walked around for a while, stopping in some cute shops in Soho, and then it was time for something sweet. We headed to Flour Shop by Amirah Kassem, the cutest, most cheerful rainbow bakery in Soho. They are pretty new (November 2018) and everything about it is adorable. We ordered the cup cake and when we cut it open out poured sprinkles and confetti from the rainbow cake. Not only was this cup cake adorable, but it was delicious as well! Can’t believe we ate again, but told you we eat a lot!
After our sweet snack we headed to Bryant Park where we went on bumper cars on ice! O. M. G. this was just so much fun. I’ve never been great at driving bumper cars and these were no exception. I’d try so hard to go straight (yes, I was aiming for my daughter but that’s the fun of it right??) and I’d end up going in circles. This was a really fun 10 minutes, it actually felt longer, and we couldn’t stop laughing. We then decided to walk around Bryant Park and of course we got something to eat. Steph got dumplings, which were delicious, and I couldn’t decide between hot chocolate and apple cider, so I got both. People watching was amazing. Between the ice skaters and people walking around there were so many interesting characters and we were not bored for one second!
Next we walked to Dylan’s Candy Bar and let’s just say I was like a kid in a candy store! Steph and I picked our candy and mine was almost double the weight of hers-plus being honest here I finished mine in two days while it took her about a week to finish hers-yikes!
We walked around for a while snacking on our Dylan’s candy and then, you guessed it, it was time for dinner. Shuka was delicious. We ordered the roasted brussel sprouts, crispy cauliflower, and the most incredible dish called shakshuka. Shakshuka is lamb meatballs, eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce (but not too spicy), chickpeas, swiss chard, and currants. OMG it was beyond delicious. I was so full, but I didn’t want to stop eating this dish-and so I didn’t!
After dinner we went to UES, which was a cute ice cream parlor in the front (believe it or not, we did not get any ice cream-still too full from dinner). Once we flipped the “secret switch” we were escorted into a really cool speakeasy, Storage, through the ice cream container secret door. It was pretty crowded but a server took our drink order and luckily we found a seat. With it’s brick walls, beautiful lighting, and cool drinks this was a great way to end a long, fun day.
Whether we were walking through Central Park, the Highline, Soho, Fifth Avenue, or any other part of the city, one thing I can say for sure is that I was never bored. Can’t wait til next time!
