Things That Helped Me Beat The Boredom in December 2021

January 4, 2022 •

Happy New Year! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday season and wish you a very happy, healthy New Year! I had so much to share with you last month that my monthly roundup is coming a few days late. But that’s a good thing right?! 😂

Here are some of what kept me busy in December.

New-York-sunset
Sunset in NYC

Moving to New York: We did it! We officially moved out of our house in Cleveland and are in NYC! It was an emotional time, but I’m loving it so far. Some of what I’m loving includes that two of my four kids are local; it’s nice to be able to walk to so many places; I’m only an hour away from my mom; I’m exploring my new surroundings. And of course the sunset and views are stunning! We’re off to a great start.

Savannah
Walking by the river in Savannah

Savannah: We had a mother daughter weekend in Savannah, GA and it was wonderful. I hadn’t met my daughter’s friend or her mom prior to this weekend, but I honestly felt like I was with lifelong friends-it was such an easy and wonderful weekend with them. I’ll share more about what we did while visiting Savannah soon, but the city is so beautiful and clean!! If you’re looking for a quick getaway, I’d definitely recommend Savannah.

Three Sisters by Heather Morris:  This is the third book in The Tattooist of Auschwitz series. Based on true events, this is the story of three sisters who make promise to their father that they will stay together no matter what happens. Years later, the youngest sister is ordered to Auschwitz and her older sister goes with her, wanting to keep her promise to her father. Some time later the sisters are reunited when the middle sister ends up at the concentration camp as well. Together they are determined to survive and create new lives for themselves. Their story is moving and inspiring, and as with so many Holocaust stories, hard to imagine all that people can inflict on one another and how strong and determined those suffering can be. An emotional read, but if you enjoy Holocaust stories this is for you.

Holiday Shopping: To be honest this year I didn’t do a lot of shopping for gifts. Between the move and my kids not really wanting or needing anything I gave mostly money, which is what they asked for. I always get pajamas for them for Christmas Eve and every year my son has me return his. This year two of my girls wanted them and my other and daughter and son received cash… So did I miss shopping? Yes and no. It didn’t feel like the holidays given I wasn’t making sure I had the right gifts and enough for everyone and wasn’t rushing to wrap them the days before Santa arrived, but did I miss schlepping to the store or the crowds-not at all, especially in today’s world! However, I do love to shop so I think I may have to do some ‘after holiday’ shopping!! 😉😉

Miss Nelly Boutique: Given that I love to support small businesses, I love clothes, and Australia is at the very top of my must see places to travel to, it’s no wonder I fell in love with Miss Nelly Boutique and all that Nelly has to offer. Every time I see what Miss Nelly posts on her instagram feed I just want to wear it. Her selection is fun and versatile and you can see Nelly’s love of fashion in all she offers. I’m determined to get to Australia and once I do I will absolutely visit (and shop!) at Miss Nelly Boutique.

Obviously the holidays and being with family were the best part of my month! Here’s hoping January is a great month for us all. Filled with health, happiness, and lots of things to keep us from being bored! 🥂

Sounds like a very busy month Michele! Congratulations on your move to NYC. I appreciate you introducing us to small businesses and I LOVE the dress you are wearing. Savannah is one of our favorite places, and I love the Riverwalk. I am reading the Last Checkmate, about a girl in an Auschwitz camp and I am going to look into the book you recommended.
    Happy New Year!
