I haven’t been doing a whole lot this month and the name of my blog has never been more appropriate—I am so bored! But I’m a little hopeful now that vaccinations have begun. Until I am eligible, here’s what I’ve been doing to try and beat the boredom.
Starbucks Hot Chocolate: While I love a good cup of hot chocolate, especially when I get cozy and relax, I usually don’t like packaged type-let’s just say I had a bad experience when I was pregnant with my oldest! The other day my husband offered to make me a cup of hot chocolate-he even bought me almond milk!! It was delicious and when he showed me that it was from a package I was very pleasantly surprised.
Staying home this month due to the pandemic and the cold weather, reading is one of my more frequent activities!
Book of the Month Club: The Book of the Month Club is great on so many levels. If you’re a reader it’s perfect for you. Actually if you’re not a reader it’s really good as you can become one. It also makes for a great gift! I got this for my daughter for her birthday and it’s so nice that each month she gets to select another gift.
The Golden Cage by Camilla Lackberg: I thing the quote “Hell hath not fury like a woman scorned” (William Congreve) would pretty much sum up this book! This novel tells the story of the scorned wife of a billionaire and her plans for revenge. I really enjoyed reading it!
Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid: A timely story of a young Black woman who helps the family she babysits for during a difficult time for them only to be accused of kidnapping the white child in her care. I was so frustrated reading this, but in a good way as I was really drawn in to the story and the characters.
Traveling Through Movies: My husband and I really miss traveling and so we decided to watch some movies that take place in different cities and countries so we could see some sites we saw when we were able to travel. previously i watched Emily in Paris and then read some books that took place in Paris and it was so fun. I was excited when my husband wanted to watch and travel with me! We watched old movies such as Sabrina, To Catch a Thief, Gentlemen prefer Blondes, and more current movies like Wall Street (ok this was from the 80s so not that current but mores than those from the 50s). It’s been fun and I can’t wait to get back to travel IRL!
Lanolips 101 Ointment: I’m really only going out for walks these days and often I’ll wear a mask-not because I’m near anyone, but because it keeps my face warm! When I don’t wear one my lips take the brunt of the cold and get so chapped. This ointment is amazing! I’ve been using it for years and it helps so much. It really helps when my lips are peeling and dry and is just so soothing. It can also be used on cuticles, cracked heels, nasal passages. This ointment is 100% natural, cruelty free, and even safe for newborns.
Presidential Inauguration: I’m not a political person and I try not to discuss politics here, but given all that’s been going on here in the US we need this change and so the inauguration was a definite highlight this month.
Fire in my fireplace: I’ve probably included this in other roundups as this is one of my staples. It also makes my pup, Zeke really happy to relax in front of the fire. Whether I’m watching tv, reading a book, or talking on the phone there’s just something about seeing the fire, hearing the crackle, and smelling the burning wood. My husband always says nothing makes him happier than when he turns on to our street and sees the smoke from the chimney and smells the fire!
I’m anxiously awaiting the time when I will be eligible for the vaccine and can get out and finding things to do away from my house to keep me entertained. xo
My two favorites here were chocolate and the lanolips ointment. In winter time it’s so hard to beat dryness and a great ointment always helps .
Regards,
Nancyb
Nancy, Chocolate always helps and I agree-I battle with dryness as the seasons change and then all winter-lanolips is a great help. Thanks for reading. xo, Michele
I know what you mean about Covid boredom, but I have been taking a drawing class and playing my guitar. I started The Great Alone and am enjoying that book. Thank you for the book recommendations and I too, make hot cocoa- its my favorite nighttime treat!
Hi Jessica, It sounds like you’ve got a lot to keep you from being bored! Yay! Enjoy your hot cocoa and thanks for the book suggestion. xo, Michele

Libbie, I feel ya! I felt like I’d been doing ok, but for whatever reason this month was tough. Hopefully we’re on the downside! I’m happy my tips will help! Be safe. xo, Michele
