It’s hard to believe the first month of 2022 is already over. Despite everything going on in the world today (covid!) it was a good month and I’m optimistic for the months to come!
Obviously one of the highlights for me has been…
Exploring NYC: We’ve been slowly exploring our new home and each time we do we find something fun and unexpected; something that makes us feel like we’re on vacation. The other day we played tourist and went to Rockefeller Center. We sat in one of the skate side chalets and had hot chocolate and hot apple cider. It was so cute to watch the ice skaters. Another night we pretended we were in Paris and went to Deux Amis, a delicious French restaurant. The food was incredible, especially the mussels! We’ve also walked around Brooklyn, the Upper East Side, Soho, and other areas. We’re getting good at navigating the subways and finding great restaurants. New York is turning out to be exactly what we were hoping it would be!
The Music Man on Broadway: I love going to musicals and living in NYC being able to see Broadway shows is, well, a dream come true! My daughter asked if we could see The Music Man as she loves Hugh Jackman (as do I!) and I loved Sutton Foster in Younger. We decided to meet for lunch at Hillstone before the show. I was on my way to lunch when I got a text from her saying that she would be a little late as she was ‘stuck’ in an elevator. I got to the restaurant thinking she’d be there maybe 15-20 minutes late. I was being optimistic! I left the restaurant realizing lunch was not going to happen. Next I was hoping she’d be out in time for the show!! She got out safely (after 55 minutes!) and we made it to the theater in plenty of time. The show was fantastic, You could tell the actors were really enjoying themselves and that just made us smile and enjoy ourelves even more!
One of a Kind Valenki Boots: I’m always looking for cool, new items to add to my wardrobe and these felt boots are the perfect addition. I love the story behind them and how pretty they are. I also like that I can dress them up with a dress or skirt or wear them casually with jeans. They really are a great addition to my shoe collection! I do have to be honest and tell you that I did have a hard time choosing as Veronika has decorated so many beautiful boots! Visit OneOfaKind.LA to choose your favorites!
A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith: I read this book years ago and when my son asked for books that took place in New York I recommended it to him. He’s a middle school English teacher and always reading. He was reading it when he came to visit us and as we talked about it I knew I had to reread it and I’m so glad I did. This coming of age story, set in the early 20th century, follows Francie from childhood to early adulthood as she and her family struggle to survive living in the tenements in Brooklyn.
The Tourist: I have to be honest, I’ve never been a big Angelina Jolie fan-I was always team Jennifer Aniston!-but on New Year’s Eve my husband suggested we watch The Tourist staring Jolie and Johnny Depp. I said why not?! Despite not receiving great reviews, I really enjoyed it. Frank, a math teacher, sets off on a trip to Europe to mend his broken heart. On his way he meets Elise and the adventure, and danger, begins. I thought it was well done and it kept me intrigued as I tried to figure things. I also enjoyed the scenery. Definitely worth watching.
Maelove: Finding great quality skincare product, which is made in USA, and is made without parabans, synthetic dyes and fragrances is very important to me. So when Maelove reached out to me I was excited to try their products. I’ve been mixing up what I use in the morning after my shower depending on what I feel my skin needs that day, but I always finish with the Sun Protector. At night, after I remove my makeup and wash my face I’ve been using the Moonlight Serum. Typically in the winter weather my face often feels dry (the cold and wind!), but since I’ve been using Maelove I haven’t experienced that feeling. With so many products available from Maelove, you’ll definitely find what your skin needs to look and stay healthy.
Montauk: My daughter and I cancelled our trip to Amsterdam and London as the time wasn’t right so when she asked about a drive out east (on Long Island)I was all for it. We decided to stay overnight and had a wonderful time. It was cold and many of the places she wanted to go were closed for the season, but that’s ok-now we know where to go back to. I’ll share more about our Montauk getaway soon!
Hoping your January was as fun and eventful as mine! I can’t wait to see what February brings!

I love going to plays and musicals it’s so nice to enjoy them again. That’s a great way to spend time, also it’s fun to pamper yourself and do a little shopping away from your usual beauty routine.
Nancy, It really is so nice to be able to see shows again! It is a little escape from reality and such a treat! xo, Michele
