Things That Helped Me Beat The Boredom in October 2021

October 29, 2021 •

Flannels: This season I feel like it’s all about the flannels and I’m loving it. There’s nothing cozier than throwing a flannel over a t-shirt and jeans. I found some of my son’s shirts from Orvis that he no longer wears and I know I will be wearing them on repeat during the coming months. Adding a flannel from the men’s or women’s department, wearing one that’s fitted or oversized, the options are comfy and endless.

Zeke It’s been almost a year since we lost Ziggy and it was a tough adjustment for all of us, but especially for Zeke. We’ve been giving him extra love to help him through this transition. In return we get cuteness and cuddles! He’s just adorable!

Cilkas-Journey

Cilka’s Journey by Heather Morris:  I read The Tattooist of Auschwitz a while ago and didn’t realize there was a second and third book in the series. Based on true stories, Heather Morris writes beautifully about a horrific time in our world. After being liberated from Auschwitz by the Soviets, Cilka is sentenced to a labor camp on charges she helped the Nazis. This is Cilka’s story as she struggled to serve her 15 year sentence in Siberia. What she endures is beyond our worst nightmares, but how she rises is a tribute to the strong woman she was. Next up, Three Sisters, the third book in the series.

the-morning-show

The Morning Show: I don’t have Apple tv in Cleveland, but I do in NY. The last time I was there my daughter and I watched The Morning Show, she’s seen it already but was ok to rewatch it with me. I’ve never seen Jennifer Aniston in anything like this and she was fantastic, as was Reese Witherspoon. Despite dealing with an infuriating situation, this was very well done. I’m part way in to season 2 and can’t wait to get back to NY so I can finish watching!

The-Hampton-Grocer

The Hampton Grocer Granola: My daughter and I took a day trip out eat on Long Island to Amagansett and one of the stops she wanted to make was Amber Waves. Amber Waves is a non-profit organization working with children in their farm based education program, training young farmers in sustainable agriculture, and partnering with local food pantries. While visiting their market we found so many delicious goodies, including The Hampton Grocer Granola. Their signature recipe is delicious (although I have to admit I do add mini vegan chocolate chips.) There are other flavors are available on The Hampton Grocer site and I’m excited to try them.

My Birthday: I turned 61 on October 12th so now I’m officially in my 60s! In our family we celebrate birthday seasons-8 days before and 8 days after. My husband made it very special for me this year by cooking dinners every night. He cooked foods that meant something to me-based on trips we took and foods he knows I love, including my favorite cake, a Sacher Torte from Lucy’s Sweet Surrender. Accompanied by delicious champagne and caviar, it was a lovely birthday.

I hope you had a great October, filled with lots of things that didn’t bore you! Happy Halloween! xo
