Being bored has taken on an entirely different meaning as we are all socially distancing/isolating ourselves, but I was still be able to find some fun things to do this month.
So, what kept me entertained? Well, I did a lot of online shopping, eating, watching tv, reading, and even playing games on my phone. I organized my closet, pulling pieces to donate, to make room for my online purchases. I realize some of these things are frivolous, but it was a distraction, and they helped me pass the time and not be too bored.
Yahtzee: I’ve been playing this game since I was a kid and still love it. This month we played it with a twist. My daughter came home from NYC and, even though she had socially isolated herself for 14 days in her apartment, she stayed in her room for the first couple of weeks. We decided to FaceTime and play Yahtzee with her up in her room and me downstairs. We had two sets, but if you don’t it’s easy to make the score sheet yourself, just google it, and as long as you have five dice you’re good to go.
Embroidery Kit: I ordered an embroidery after seeing one on Public Lives, Secret Recipes’ instastory. It’s something fun to do while I’m watching tv and it’s good for me to be doing something with my hands so they don’t stiffen up due to my RA.
Square Toe Mules: Shopping online has always been a favorite pastime of mine, so of course that won’t change now. I’d seen a lot of square toe shoes on IG and really like them. However, these are not something I want to spend a lot on as I know it’s a trend. Luckily, I found these Jeffrey Campbell mules and I’m so excited to wear them once the shelter in place order is lifted.
Face Scrub: I’ve used this St. Ives scrub for years and with the fear of running low (but Michele you can order it online. I know, I know!) it made me realize how much I love it. It’s a great scrub, and never too harsh on my skin.
Hooded Robe: I love to put on a terry robe as soon as I get out of the shower because otherwise I’m too cold. My husband got me a new terry cloth robe for the holidays. My old one was in really bad shape but I loved it. I finally parted with my old one and absolutely love how cozy this new robe is.
Bombshell: This movie, starring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, is based on the accounts of the women at Fox News as they set out to expose the toxic atmosphere of sexual harassment caused by Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. I really enjoyed this movie. It was well done and, although it does deal with a serious topic, it was entertaining. I watched this movie on Amazon Prime.
The Girls With No Names by Serena Burdick: This is the story of two young sisters from a wealthy family growing up in the early 1900s. Not far from their home was the House of Mercy, a work home for wayward girls. This historical fiction explores the lives of the two wealthy girls as well as those living in the work house. While at times I was horrified at what the girls in the work home went through, it was a really good book and made me want to learn more about the House of Mercy and life in this time.
