Turks & Caicos: A Last Minute Getaway

Turks-and-Caicos-port-of-call

A few weeks ago my husband decided we should go away. I’ll never say no to that! A week and a half later we were headed to Turks & Caicos and it was a very good choice for a relaxing getaway.

We arrived at Grace Bay Club late afternoon on a Thursday, took some time to look around, and then headed to dinner. Unfortunately, we made a mistake. The restaurant we went to was not good at all, plus we missed the Fish Fry. Every Thursday night one can visit the Fish Fry and sample local food and drinks and listen to live music. We walked over after dinner and it was so much fun. The food looked delicious (we didn’t eat as we’d just had dinner), the music was fun, and the whole atmosphere was so positive. Next time I go to Turks & Caicos I will definitely be at the Fish Fry on Thursday night!

The next day we hit the beach. The water is so beautiful-such incredible shades of blue! We spent the entire day relaxing, walking along the water, eating a delicious lobster salad, and meeting new friends. That night we ate dinner at Infiniti, the hotel’s restaurant. They set up a table for us on the beach. It was so romantic and absolutely the best meal we had on this trip. A bonus was at the end of dinner there were fireworks in the distance. The timing was incredible and it felt like they were for us!!

Saturday we decided to spend the day at the adult pool. It too was relaxing and beautiful. I was sitting in the pool looking at the ocean-breathtaking! That night my husband and I took a walk into town before dinner. We decided to stop at the Ritz Carlton Casino. We were inside for less that 10 minutes and my husband won enough to pay for dinner!! Yay!! We then went to Seven for dinner and it was really good.

Sunday was a quiet, lazy day. We woke up and took it easy. After two long days in the sun we were in agreement that a day off from the sun was in order. We took a leisurely walk downtown, stopping in some little shops although many were closed on Sunday. We stopped for lunch at Noori in the Lobby Lounge at the Ritz. It was perfect. I didn’t want to be in the sun, but I wanted to be outside and Noori is a covered outdoor lounge serving delicious sushi. That night we decided to eat on the balcony of our room. Dinner was from Infiniti again, and it was just as delicious and incredibly relaxing.

On our last full day we headed back out to the beach and enjoyed the sun. We had a late dinner reservation so we enjoyed a sunset walk on the beach. In case I didn’t mention it before, we did watch the sunset every day and it was so beautiful. What is it about a sunset? No matter how many times I see one, it’s always magical! Anyway, after sunset we headed to Grace’s Cottage, a beautiful French inspired restaurant. We’d heard a lot about Grace’s Cottage and it was difficult to get a reservation-why we had a late dinner, but it was worth the wait!

The next day we packed up and headed to the airport. Well, we waited and waited and yup, our flight was cancelled. We were put up at The Shore Club, and OMG it was beautiful! We had a wonderful dinner at Sui-Ren. In the morning, when we really got to see the beauty of the resort, we decided that if we go back to Turks & Caicos we will stay at The Shore Club!

So back to the airport and another bit of a wait. But it wasn’t a quiet wait. My luggage was “randomly” selected so once I went through security I had to go back outside and have my suitcase searched. Then back through security. It was finally time to board and guess what, yup, my ticket had SSSS on it which meant I was again selected to be searched by TSA. My lucky day right?! 😂

There’s a lot to do on Turks & Caicos. You can go snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking, jet skis, ride horses on the beach, adopt a puppy for a day (my kids would have done this!). But we chose to be really low key and for us…

It was the perfect relaxing getaway!
